Ubuntu

For me it's a reminder that I can never be un-connected from my ancestors, my culture and our roots - they are a part of me I can't separate from my other parts even if I tried. We are all part of the same constellation, though each star is not the same. Like a piece of fabric, the strands are not identical, but together they create something strong and new. So for me Ubuntu lets me know there is no one right way to be African or to be Black. We all need each other in our differences, so we can stand on our own, together. In this country, we are still finding our way as Afro-rooted people, and so I think this question of interdependence, sameness and difference is crucial for us all.
