KWABO is a POC-led art incubator program designed to support emerging artists and creative professionals through mentorship, skill development, and public presentation. The program fosters cultural safety and celebrates the richness of diverse creative voices through the production of participatory and collaborative artistic and cultural experiences.

KWABO means "welcome" in Fon, a dialect from Benin. Beyond its literal meaning, KWABO encompasses the welcoming spirit of guests by members of the villages in both Togo and Benin. The local community would gather to celebrate the guests’ arrival by dancing, singing and playing music.

Produced by Gracieuse Amah, Founder and Creative Director of Kwabo Events, KWABO Incubator returns from September 12th November 15th, 2026. This year, the program takes part of a larger initiative Harambee Creatives Futures in partnership with Ausdance Victoria and culminates with its inaugural community event. You can expect a jam-packed event with participatory art and cultural exhibitions produced by our incubator participants, interactive activities for all ages, performances by emerging POC talents, a networking event, a cultural talk, djs, photography exhibition, a community meal and more…

  • Flexible Volunteer Submissions
    Please send your resume and a short paragraph (100 words maximum) explaining why you’re interested in volunteering. Whether through written text, a video or another creative format, we welcome applications in whatever way best represents you.

WORKFORCE PARTNERSHIPS

POC Workforce Host Organisations

Interested in joining the HARAMBEE project as a workforce host organisation? 

  • Support, train and mentor POC arts workers in 2027 and 2028

  • Contribute to strengthening cultural knowledge in the arts sector

  • Skills available include: stage and production management; artistic production; creative and event management

  • Become part of a supportive network of organisations, education institutions, local government, artists and communities improving culturally safe practices

We are looking for host organisations who have volunteered or paid placement/ internship opportunities in their projects or events. This can be within large or small public festivals, artistic and community events you produce or partner on. Host organisations’ role will be acknowledged on Ausdance Victoria, Kwabo Events and Kwabo Festival websites, social media and reports.
